Friday was a bit drizzly outside, with lots of gray skies and dank humidity, so frisbee was unfortunately out of the question…but a bit of rain could not stop 121Reach from a great game of DODGEBALL! For those of you newbies out there, here’s the gist of the game: players split into two teams on opposite sides of the room. A row of balls is placed in between the teams (right down the middle of the room so that both sides get an equal advantage), and at the blow of a whistle (or some other starting signal) players grab the balls from the middle of the floor and throw them at players on the opposite side.
The goal is—amazingly enough—to dodge the balls! Anyone who gets hit sits out, and the team with the most people still standing when the game ends wins.

We headed down to the gym, where we set up a line of colorful foam balls in the center. After splitting into two teams the catapulting began! There was a mad rush towards the middle of the floor. As the two forces met colored balls whizzed across the room. The heated games began, and the “out” players soon covered the bleachers. The first win went to team “Right Side”!
For some added zing we decided to mix up the teams. We had tutors vs. tutees, seniors and 8th graders vs. everyone else, 8th graders vs. 6th and 7th graders, and the ultimate showdown…..boys vs. girls!

All throughout the gym there were ardent cheers for each team.
To top off all the fun, Mrs. Ellen Ko (Bryan Ko’s mom) brought in some delicious homemade cookies and blueberry pie. Thanks Mrs. Ko!
Both tutors and tutees had a blast!
