121Reach for Middle School
Who is 121Reach For?

121Reach is open to all middle school students, whether you need a lot of help or just a little bit of advice! Our tutors span a diverse range of subjects, from AP Spanish to Georgia Tech’s Calculus II. We also help with study skills such as organization, note-taking, etc. Because 121Reach has a one-to-one, long-term tutoring structure, we allow for focused tutoring tailored to each tutee’s needs. Just ask and we’ll help!
How 121Reach Works
The 121Reach staff matches tutors and tutees based on subjects the tutees need help on and subjects tutors can help with. Additional input such as common interests and special requests are also considered. Tutors and tutees will go through a 2 week trial at the beginning of the school year, and if the pairing works out, Tutors and tutees will remain together permanently.
New tutors and tutees are welcome all throughout the school year, not just at the beginning! We open our doors to everyone who needs help and who wants to help! New tutors and tutees will also go through the trial week from the time they join, and then will be paired with someone permanently.

During a Session…
121Reach holds tutoring sessions after school at the Taylor Road media center twice a week. Tutee and tutor pairs will find each other and find a place to start working. Each Pair will proceed according to the tutee’s needs. Both tutees and tutors are advised to bring materials they need to work on. (ie: tutees should bring their science books if they need help on science, and tutors can bring helpful resources)
121Reach HIGH
Who is 121Reach HIGH For?
121Reach HIGH is a new 121Reach program just for 9th grade students. Middle school is definitely tough, but the first year of high school can be even tougher! 121Reach HIGH helps 9th grade students transition to high school life and reach HIGHer academically. 9th grade tutees are also given an additional opportunity—the chance to be a tutor!

How 121Reach HIGH Works
121Reach HIGH students are both tutors AND tutees. 9th grade students will attend both 121Reach sessions a week; they will be tutored one session of the week and tutor during the other session. In this way, the freshmen get the best of both worlds! They can still get extra help after school, while having the chance to help others with the subject they feel most comfortable sharing.
121Reach HIGH students generally have been with 121Reach since middle school. If this is the case, they will keep their former tutor. If students are completely new to 121Reach, they are still welcome! New 9th grade students should register as tutees and will be matched with both a tutor and a tutee based on subject needs. Additional input such as common interests and special requests are also considered. Tutors and tutees will go through a 2 week trial at the beginning of the school year, and if the pairing works out, tutors and tutees will remain together permanently. New 121Reach HIGH members are welcome all throughout the school year!
During the student’s first session staff will work out his/her tutoring schedule. What day the student either tutors or is tutored often depends on the schedules of the tutors and tutees (some tutors and tutees can only come 1 day a week).
121Reach HIGH is a new program, so keep your eyes open for more details! Also, information about homerooms for 121Reach HIGH is coming.

During a Session…
121Reach holds tutoring sessions after school at the Taylor Road media center on Mondays and Thursdays. 121Reach HIGH members will tutor one day and be tutored the other. Tutee and tutor pairs will find each other and find a place to start working. Each Pair will proceed according to the tutee’s needs. Both tutees and tutors are advised to bring materials they need to work on. (ie: tutees should bring their science books if they need help on science.)
Tutor Treats
Tutor Treats is a special tradition of 121Reach. During the first Thursday of every month, tutors and tutees exchange treats–usually a salty or sweet snack and a drink. Sometimes tutors and tutees even include a little gift or note! If a tutor or tutee is absent on a Tutor Treats Day, we ask that the pair exchange treats the tutee the session before or the session after. Tutor Treats is a great way to bond and to get know each other better.
Events
121Reach has fun monthly events where tutors and tutees get a chance to bond outside of doing school work! These events could be anything from dodgeball after school to a celebration of Pi Day! Whatever it may be, tutors and tutees alike have tons of fun getting to know each other. Events are either after school (non-tutoring days) or during the weekend. If you have a suggestion for an event, please feel free to contact us!
