Who Can Tutor?

Any high school student passionate about teaching, learning, and helping others is welcome to tutor! While no specific requirements are in place for being a tutor, in the past, 121Reach tutors have been members of National Honor Society, Beta Club, or both. Other traits of tutors include responsibility, patience, empathy, and of course, a readiness for lots of FUN! Tutors will receive service hours (Beta, NHS, or personal) for their work and those who go above and beyond are eligible for the President’s Volunteer Service Award as well. Tutors must be willing to devote at least 150 minutes of their busy schedules a week to 121Reach.

Tutor Guidelines

General Guidelines

  1. Tutor must sign contract in order to tutor and have service hours recorded for his/her tutoring.
  2. Tutor must renew contract each semester if he/she still wants to continue tutoring.
  3. Violations result in a service hour reduction of 1.25 hours.

Service Hours

  1. Beta and NHS hours are honored. Hours will be calculated at the end of a semester. Tutors with 100 hours or more of 121Reach (accumulated from the time they join 121reach) are eligible for the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
  2. Outside tutoring with tutees is strongly encouraged and will be awarded service hours with a proof of signature from the tutee’s parent.
  3. Tutors are not paid.

Attendance Information

  1. Tutoring sessions are twice a week after school. Tutors will attend both tutoring sessions a week unless tutee requests only one session per week. (Must be pre-approved; See “Prescheduled Commitments” below)
  2. Tutors must communicate with their tutee and the 121Reach management at their school if they cannot attend a tutoring session. Tutors must notify Management at least 2 days previous to the session that will be missed. This is because tutors have a responsibility toward their tutees, who join 121Reach expecting to be tutored.
  3. Tutors will not miss more than 1 tutoring session a month and must inform their tutees 2 days previous to the session.
  4. Tutors must attend at least 2 events sponsored by 121Reach. (does not include tutoring sessions)

Prescheduled Commitments

  1. Some tutors have prescheduled commitments (ie; sports, classes after school, other clubs, etc.) on one of the days of tutoring. These absences are excused, as long as the tutor has his/her absence pre-approved with 121Reach management. Tutors should send an email to 121reach@gmail.com with the excuse, day that will be missed, and the make-up option.
  2. The make-up options are required as part of the contract. Tutors must either a.) tutor their tutee 4 times outside of 121Reach sessions or b.) attend 4 events a semester.
  3. Tutors must have a legitimate excuse for tutoring only once a week
